Episode 12 – Tamam Shud (The Somerton Man)

This is a mysterious case of a dead man found on Somerton beach, located south of Adelaide, Australia. No cause of death was determined and no one could identify him. A small scrap of paper with two printed words were the only clue. Listen as we discuss the various theories involved in the case. If you listen until the end, you’ll here the most credible theory, my own, which neatly solves this case. If you try the cocktail, reduce the pineapple juice by at least half. The drink will be better for it.

Sweet Poison

1oz. Rum
2oz. Coconut Rum
1oz. Blue Curacao
8oz. Pineapple juice

Combine alcohols and shake on ice. Strain into large glass and top with pineapple juice.

Episode 11 – The Jefferson Davis 8

Southern Louisiana. The air is thick with humidity and mosquitoes. Eight bodies are discovered between 2005 and 2009 amid the snakes and stagnant waters of Louisiana’s swamps. Eight young women murdered with clues suggesting anything from a possible police cover up to a mysterious serial killer. What’s the true reason behind all this death? We don’t know, but we drink a lot and speculate on it.

Hurricane

1oz. passion fruit rum
1oz. dark rum
1/4tsp. lime juice
4 oz. pineapple juice

Pour all ingredients into a tall ice filled glass and stir.

1/2 lime quartered
1 tsp. white sugar
2.5 oz. cachaca

Muddle sugar and lime together until sugar is dissolved. Add cachaca and stir with ice.

In this episode we discuss the mysterious deaths of two electronics technicians in Brazil over 50 years ago, among many other things. We drank a lot, so we ended up going off topic quite a bit. Hope you enjoy!

0.75 oz. butterscotch schnapps
3 drops of grenadine

Mix whiskey and schnapps on ice and strain into shot glass. Top with 1-3 drops grenadine.

The Zombie
1 tsp. brown sugar
1 oz. lemon juice
1 oz. lime juice
1 oz. pineapple juice
1 oz. passion fruit syrup
1 dash angostura bitters
1 oz. gold rum
1 oz. 151-proof rum
1 oz. white rum

Dissolve brown sugar in juices. Shake all ingredients with ice and pour into chilled collins glass. Garnish with a mint sprig.

1 oz. Tequila
3/4 oz. Amaretto
1 oz. Grenadine
Pineapple juice

Pour tequila and amaretto over ice in glass. Add pineapple juice until the glass is almost full and top with grenadine. To make the “Ed Gein” variant we made on the podcast, add about 1/2 oz. of anisette to the rest of the ingredients. Enjoy!
